We’ve been in the States for an entire month now and are already half way through our furlough. So far our time has been a whirlwind of activity and travels throughout southern and central California and Arizona. Most of our time to this point has been filled with taking care of medical, dental and practical needs, visiting family and friends, and taking opportunity to share about our ministry with various people, ministries and churches. Despite our busyness since landing we’ve really been having a wonderful time connecting with people and have even sneaked in some touristy activities by visiting Yosemite and the Grand Canyon, both for the first time. Just now we’ve found some down time to enjoy a couple of days of rest while staying at the CC Conference Center and Bible College in Murrieta, CA, where Frank was invited to speak to over 300 students at their morning devotion session. It was a blessing to share the Word with them, share about our ministry and answer questions they had after.
Sharing about our needs as missionaries is always a touchy thing that we try to approach delicately with balance. On the one hand we do not want to appear as though we are soliciting and not trusting God to provide by mentioning anything publically. Whereas on the other hand we do not want to keep people in the dark and have learned over the years that some people want to know so they can at least intercede on our behalf and ask the Lord to provide. Biblically there are arguments for both sharing needs and keeping quiet about them. In light of that it has become our philosophy to take every situation on a case-by-case basis. There are some needs that we share publically and others that we keep to ourselves. We truly believe that we have freedom to take either direction and usually discern which to follow as we seek the Lord for wisdom. Regardless of the direction it is our hearts to approach it in faith trusting that God will work whether through our silence or through our public notifications. God is always faithful to provide!
Having communicated our position on this, the current situation that we find ourselves in is one in which we believe it is right for us to publically share specific needs that we have. We do so trusting that God will move you first and foremost to pray for His provision and then move hearts of those whom He is calling to help in practical and monetary ways.
Some specific needs have arisen as the result of our move to Germany both from the move itself and a higher cost of living in our new city. In addition to these there are some practical needs that we hope to fill while we are still stateside. Here is a list of our needs:
MOVING/START UP COSTS: Shipping company: $1450; personal transport from Germany to Greece by air: $500; Apartment rental deposit: $850; long-term car rental deposit: $400.
PRACTICAL NEEDS: Suzie needed to replace her orthotic inserts for her shoes at the cost of nearly $400, Eye glasses for the both of us are needed and will cost approx. $200, New clothing/shoes (generally cheaper to buy in the U.S.), Electronics devices (contact us if you want specifics), New ultra lightweight luggage (ours are getting weathered and cracking).
MONTHLY COST OF LIVING: Our monthly living expenses will increase by several hundred dollars due to the local economy in the area that we will be ministering in. We are facing a huge increase in rent which is almost double what we paid in Athens; we’ll be renting a car long-term from a mission’s organization that we will be associated with (car rental is for a newer car and will cover all expenses except fuel).
Please join us in praying for God’s provision for the above-mentioned needs. If you are led to partner with us financially in any of these things specifically then please contact us directly or click our donate button on the sidebar.
MORE IN MARCH…
TEACHING/SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS: Frank will be teaching/speaking for the next three consecutive Sunday mornings at three different Calvary Chapels. This Sunday March 12 he will be teaching at Hope Central Watts, March 19 covering at Newport Coast Lighthouse, and on March 26 he will be speaking at CC Pocatello, ID. We were invited by the pastor of CC Pocatello to come and share about the work that the Lord has been doing among the Muslim refugees and the church we planted. As we are short on time and money their church graciously offered to fly us out for Frank to speak on a Sunday morning and evening, which we were so blessed by. Frank will also be sharing at CC of the Harbor in Huntington Beach on Tuesday March 28 for their mid-week Bible study and lastly giving an update at a date to be announced at CC South Bay. This whirlwind is continuing to a degree but beyond our visit to Idaho we will be staying put in the South Bay and Orange County areas.
RESTING & CONNECTING: Our plan is to spend the rest of our time connecting with the leadership from our supporting churches to discuss the new work we are heading into in Germany, taking care of a few more practical/medical issues, shopping for needed items, and enjoying the company of our friends and family in the area.
Again, we are so excited for all God has planned and is doing and are thankful for all He has done! He is always our “above and beyond” blessing God!! That’s all for now. We will try to write again briefly before returning to Germany on April 4th. Please take a moment to read our latest praise and prayer below and enjoy our slideshow at the bottom of that.
NEW iPAD: Thankful to the Lord for providing through a supporter who specifically donated and bought us a new one. This was a practical tool that is very helpful to Frank and we are grateful that God provided!
OPEN DOORS: We had prayed before our furlough that God would open doors to minister and be able to also share about our ministry and He has exceeded both of those expectations. It has been truly humbling.
REFRESHMENT: Thankful God has been giving us down time amidst the busyness and blessed us thus far with wonderful times of fellowship.
TEACHING/SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS: Please pray for God to use these opportunities at the different churches Frank is teaching at in the next month to encourage and exhort and to bring awareness of our past and future ministry.
LAYING FOUNDATION: Pray for God to continue to lay the foundation for the new church and work in Germany. Much has been happening and we want to continue to pray through every step.
APARTMENT IN GERMANY: This is a huge need so we ask that you pray for this HUGE need as we do not have one yet and when we arrive in April we pray that God would bless us quickly with the right apartment. We are looking for a two bedroom that is fully furnished and in our price range…it’s a huge request but God can do it!
PERSIAN CHURCH ATHENS: Please continue to pray for the church we leave behind in Athens, that God would continue to grow them and use them for His glory, also for Arno as he pastors and Sahar his wife as she serves in various ways and as the primary translator.
HEALTH: Continue good health as many have been sick around us but we have not caught anything…yet.
PROVISION: Please pray for continued provision, especially in light of our current needs and the higher cost of living we are now facing in Germany.
REST: Please continue to pray for times of rest and refreshment while we are Stateside. Our hearts are to return to Germany fully charged and ready to go!
We want to thank you all for taking the time to read and pray with us on these things. Co-laboring with us with your prayers and support mean so much! We are grateful for your obedience to the Lord as you support the work God has called us to. Please enjoy the slideshow below of our last month.
SUPPORT INFO: If you are a church or an individual and would like to learn about partnering with us financially with either a one time gift or regular monthly support you can visit our “Becoming A Sender” page or click here.
