Praying you enjoy our short update as we highlight some of what happened this past month and share about some things that are coming over the next few weeks. This month we are keeping it pretty brief but plan to give a more detailed update in October that will focus more on some upcoming news, so stay tuned…
MISSIONS CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS: We are pleased to say that once again we had a refreshing week in Austria. Our time was spent reconnecting with friends and fellow CC missionaries serving throughout the EU whom we normally only see once or twice per year, praying for each other, sharing about our lives and ministries, worshipping and studying God’s word, and quietly seek the Lord and His filling together. It was also a blessing for us to spend some quality time with our friends co-laborers, Arno & Sahar who joined us again this year. On our way to the conference we stopped in Bratislava, Slovakia to visit our friends Patrick & Ivetka Higgins. That Sunday I (Frank) had the privilege of teaching the word at City Light (CC Bratislava), the church where Patrick is pastor. After the teaching Suzie, Arno, Sahar and I did a Q & A time to give opportunity to the church to ask questions regarding the ministry here. Patrick’s heart was to give the church a better understanding of how God is using the refugee situation in Europe to bring many out of Islam and into Christ and how their church might get involved in their own community. There is a refugee camp near Bratislava where they’ve begun to have open doors to serve. Overall, it was an amazing trip and conference. We are so blessed that God gave us this time to go. Each year we sign up in faith and trust the Lord to provide. This marks our fourth (or fifth?) consecutive year that we’ve been able to attend. We’re truly grateful!
SAYING GOODBYE TO A CO-LABORER: We had a bitter sweet moment this past week
as we said goodbye for now, to Jenessa our new friend and short-term worker who came to serve with us from CC Mountain Springs in Calgary, Canada over the last month. We were blessed by and grateful for her faithful and fruitful service to the Lord while here and for the wonderful times of fellowship that we had with her. Jenessa’s willingness to step out in faith by allowing her feet to follow the path that God placed before her is a wonderful example for all. We pray for God to raise up others like this amazing woman, who will follow the prompting of the Spirit with willing hearts to go wherever God leads!
COMING IN SEPTEMBER…
MINISTRY INTERN: In the beginning of September a young man named Jesse Corey will begin to serve with us as an intern. He is from New York and graduated from the CC Bible College a few years back. Jesse has been involved in some of the different campuses in the Mediterranean as a teacher/director/intern over the last couple of years. This semester he will be returning to serve as an intern at the CC Bible College teaching site, here in Athens. While the Bible College will be his main focus, Jesse will be serving with our church and ministry as well in whatever ways he is able. We look forward to having him and are excited to see what God will do in and through him.
CC BIBLE COLLEGE BEGINNINGS: The beginning of September will also bring this semester’s director and his wife, Tom & Cheryl Reese (long time missionaries in Africa and England). Tom and Cheryl arrive next week along with Jesse Corey (the intern), and 15 Bible college students. In addition to those who are staying for the semester Dave Shirley (the CCBC teaching sites director) & his assistant Alina (teaching site coordinator) will also be coming for the school’s first week in Greece to help get everyone settled. We are very blessed to host them all, have them involved in our church and ministry for the next couple months and are grateful to have Calvary Chapel family present in Athens to serve alongside us.
And that’s about it for this G.G. update… Please take the time to read our praise reports and our most current prayer needs below. Thanks again for standing in the gap with us and supporting us!
TIME TO PRAISE…
SHARING CHRIST: This last month we’ve had the opportunity to share Christ with 5 different people. One specifically is the waiter and friend we told you about at the café we visit weekly. His name is Michalis (Michael). One day we were having coffee and had the opportunity to share Christ with a Greek couple that had moved back to Greece from the States. Our waiter, Michalis, heard us talking about the Lord. After this couple left he walked up to us and asked us about our conversation, specifically about Jesus. So we shared the gospel with him… We have since given him a Bible and continue to talk with him each time we visit the café. Please pray for this man and the others we have witnessed to in recent weeks. No matter where we are, we need to be ready to share Christ and praying for opportunities to do so. We are extremely blessed by open doors like these ones.
SHORT-TERM WORKERS: Grateful to the Lord for Jenessa our short-term worker from Canada. We said goodbye to her last week. She was a huge blessing to our ministry and church as well as to us. We are also grateful to the Lord for our new short-term intern, Jesse Corey, who will be here in another week.
TIME TO PRAY…
CC BIBLE COLLEGE TEACHING SITE: For God to bless this year’s semester here in Athens, traveling mercies for all the staff and students arriving next week, for potential outreach trips that will be taken while here, the students as they serve in our church and at local ministries we plug them into and lastly for the Holy Spirit’s work in all our lives and those ministries involved.
BIBLE COLLEGE CLASS: Please pray for Frank as he finishes his prep and study time for the class he will be teaching in 1 & 2 Corinthians in a couple weeks.
CHURCH SERVICES: Please pray for the morning Bible study and afternoon church service and that God would continue to bless Sundays as Frank & Arno lead them. Also for God’s word to go forth with boldness!
DISCIPLESHIP & RAISING UP: Please pray for those we are discipling both individually and in groups on a weekly basis. God is moving mightily in this area!
HEALTH: Suzie has her endocrinologist appointment on Monday (September 5) to get a biopsy and an exam for some other issues. Please pray for healing and for other doctor appointments we have to schedule. Also please pray for us and our team’s overall health and that we would be free from colds and flues that begin to spread during this season and especially during the business of our ministry. None of us can afford to get sick right now.
PROVISION: Thankful for God’s provision. Please pray along with us for our personal and ministry needs to be met. We trust God will direct your hearts in how to pray for this. The Lord continues to show us time and time again… how faithful He is.
