We wanted to take a few minutes of your time to share about our latest happenings and the progress on a couple of things that we’ve been working on…
Visitors: We were blessed last week by a visit from our friends Patrick and Ivetka Higgins and their two sons, Gabriel and David. Patrick is the pastor of City Light Church in Bratislava, Slovakia. Our time together was filled with sweet times of fellowship, a bit of sight seeing, a few beach days and lots of roof top meals and coffee time. We also were blessed to meet Greg and Bev Enright, two CC missionaries from Applegate Christian Fellowship. They are serving in Israel and needed a few days out of the country for visa purposes and contacted us through a mutual friend. Needless to say it is always a blessing to connect with our family in Christ from Calvary Chapel.
The Inductive Bible Study Training Seminar October 1-4 with Dan Finfrock/Intensive Care Ministries: The planning is going well. Everything is in motion for this upcoming event. I (Frank) am still working out a location though it seems that I am close to locking one in at a local Greek church. We are offering this seminar free of charge as most of the attendees would not be able to pay due to the financial hardships going on in Greece right now. This is a step of faith for us as we are trusting the Lord to provide the finances needed to fund this event. The estimated budget that is needed to cover material translation, live translators, food, printed materials and facility will be about 1200€ to 1400€ (or $1600 to $1800). If you would like to participate in this financially either as individuals or churches you may do so through one of our supporting churches, Newport Coast Lighthouse. They have set up a special fund for this event that you can give directly to. Just make your checks payable to Newport Coast Lighthouse and attach a sticky note on the check directing it to the IBS training in Greece (Please do not write on memo line). You can then mail them off to:

Our heart for hosting this seminar is to equip Greek and foreign local pastors and leaders with the tools and vision to teach the Bible book by book and verse by verse in their churches. Although some have estimated a group of 50 plus attendees we are less concerned about numbers than we are about ministering to the right people, i.e. those who would openly receive and implement what they learn. That is what we are praying for. It is also our hope to continue on helping these men with subsequent one on one follow up meetings. Please pray for God to send those whom He wants to come. As you know Suzie and I are primarily working alone so we have also invited a couple of other CC pastors from elsewhere in Europe to come out and help in this event. Our purpose in doing so is to give the attendees the opportunity to hear first hand testimony of how teaching God’s word in this way has impacted other churches. The other pastors will also have the opportunity to interact with the attendees, encourage them in their work and answer questions they might have. I will let you know who these other pastors are once they have confirmed. Praying the Lord opens the door for them to come.
Sahar & Baby Fiona update: Baby Fiona is doing much better, out of ICU but still in the hospital. She is now over 2 kgs and is beginning to eat more. They’ve been allowing the parents to physically hold her and feed her. They just took the feeding tube out yesterday! We look forward to seeing her home soon! We may even be able to hold her ourselves before we leave for our missions conference 🙂
Men’s Discipleship Meetings: Our meetings with the group of Afghan men who’ve recently made professions of faith in Christ have grown increasingly fruitful. We’ve been meeting twice per week for about three hours at a time over the last month. It has been amazing to see them soak in and understand the truth of God’s word, and freely asking questions (in Islam they are not allowed to ask questions so this is a new concept to them). God has been giving us grace to communicate in a way that they understand as we’ve taken time to slowly walk through the word in a discussion format. Our teaching team will be taking a break from these meetings for most of August and handing them over to a couple of colleagues from one of the other refugee ministries involved. Lord willing we will pick up our study of 1 John again in September. (Note: Photo is blurred for security purposes. An un edited pic will be posted in our password protected section of our photo gallery later this week.)
August Travels: Suzie and I will be leaving Greece for about three weeks next Tuesday (Aug. 6). We will be spending a week in Exeter, England visiting Bob and Jean Claycamp. Bob recently began pastoring Calvary Chapel Exeter but pastored CC North Phoenix for nearly thirty years before heading out to the mission field. We’re looking forward to seeing their ministry in action, gleaning from their wisdom and experience, and enjoying their fellowship. I will be teaching at CC Exeter on Sunday August 11 and am excited to share the word with these dear saints! Following our visit to England we will be heading to Millstatt, Austria for the annual CC missions conference. Praying for a blessed time in the word and with the people of God. Interwoven in all of this is a few days in Italy which will serve as our travel hub. While in Italy we are looking forward to reconnecting with friends and enjoying a few pizzas and espressos 🙂
Blessed on a Boat: We’d like to end this update with a fun experience we had. An extra unexpected blessing came to us this month when a Greek pastor friend from one of the local churches we’ve been visiting invited us to join them on a one day, three island hopper cruise. The cruise was mostly Christians so it was not only a wonderful experience of Greek culture (dancing included) but also a sweet time of fellowship. We haven’t been able to see much of Greece yet, other than taking visitors or teams to Corinth and other local spots so this was a huge treat from the Lord. Check out the pics below and the fun video clip of our dancing Greek waiter doing a traditional dance. It was truly an amazing day! Don’t forget to come back and check out our prayer requests after you’ve watched the video 🙂
