December Update

Hello All,

First off we want to say thank you for all your continued prayers for this ministry and specifically for Suzie’s dad, George. The love and outpouring of support thru many avenues has been such a blessing to us in more ways than you know! With that here is a brief update on our ministry and with Suzie’s dad.

Visit to California…

Travel Plans: We were able to purchase tickets today for the unexpected visit to the States that we asked you all to continue to pray for. We will be leaving for California on Wednesday, December 12th and returning to Athens on Tuesday January 29th, which is about 6 weeks. We decided to extend the trip to allow ourselves adequate time with family and others we hope to see. Despite the obvious difficult circumstances that prompted this trip we are thanking the Lord for this opportunity to spend time with family and friends and get some needed rest.

Suzie’s Dad, George: Suzie’s sister messaged us on Monday that their dad’s thyroid cancer is operable and has a surgery date on January 3rd in Los Angeles. We praise the Lord for providing the airfare and making it possible for us to return in time.

What’s On the Calendar: Our first couple of days will be spent in the LA/OC area to shake off our jetlag before heading up to Bakersfield. In Bakersfield we will spend time with Suzie’s family for the next three weeks into the first week of January.  On Sunday, January 6th we will be representing Greece at the CC Costa Mesa “Meet the Missionary Day” and then attending the CC Missions Conference in Murrietta the following week (January 7-11). The remainder of our time in January will be spent with Frank’s family, and our church families in the South Bay and Orange County areas. If you’d like to get a hold of us while we are there just shoot us an email and we will do our best to connect if time permits. We will have a cell phone number soon after arriving.

Ministry…

Christmas Dinner Outreaches: Suzie and I have been enjoying our growing relationship with Helping Hands Refugee Ministry. This week we’ve had the opportunity to serve at their Christmas Dinner Outreaches. On five different nights this week, different groups of people have been invited out to enjoy a meal together, receive gift bags, and hear a message from the word. Each night there were well over 100 attendees. There are three family nights, one men’s night, and one night strictly for believers who’ve come to faith in Christ out of Islam. The believers night was especially sweet as people shared their testimonies, enjoyed communion together and even played a few games. Overall it has been a great week and a privilege to serve with Helping Hands as our ministries complement each others so well.

Bible Studies and Ministries: Beginning this week we will be taking a break from all of our normal ministry activities for several reasons. The most obvious is that we will not be in Greece for the next six weeks.  Also our core missionary group that has been meeting on Friday evenings for the last several weeks to pray for the next Bible study we plan to begin in February, will all be out of the country until at least mid-January. Beyond these things ministry here normally slows down from Christmas time  into January much like it does in late summer. This creates a very natural opportunity for us to pause. When we return we will be meeting in the new public facility that the Lord has provided in downtown Athens. As blessed as we are to take a break in the States we are already looking forward to getting back. Our hearts have really been knit to the people we are ministering to and the nation that God has placed us in. We thank God for this grace!

Praise & Prayer

Greece: We recently heard that there is a chance that legislation might be drafted that will outlaw the fascist party that we mentioned in our last update. This will not stop them completely but it will remove their legitimacy as a political party to some degree. Please continue to pray for God to stop these evil men and their evil plan. Also please continue to pray for God to use the current troubles in Greece to open people’s hearts to Him. Many of the Greek pastors that I’ve been meeting with are praying for this very thing! We all see the need and potential for revival that can happen during these difficult times.

Cat Sitter Found: The Lord provided someone to take our cat for the entire time we will be gone. A wonderful sister from Suzie’s Bible study has volunteered to take Crossy into her home. This is huge for us!

Suzie’s Dad: We praise the Lord that the cancerous tumor is operable, though it is still a very serious surgery. The doctors are still uncertain about many things that only the surgery will reveal. Please pray for the surgery to go well, a full recovery, and for the Lord to use this to draw him closer to Himself.

Bible Studies: Praising the Lord for providing a public meeting place for the Bible study. Please pray for this new Bible study we plan to start in February, that God would continue to draw the people He wants to attend. Also, please pray for the Seeker’s Bible study and the Community Group that I co-lead with my friend Kenn. Last but not least, pray for the women’s Bible study that Suzie is part of. She will be doing the teaching that follows the small group times from February thru April and covering all of 1 Samuel.

Trip to the States: A fruitful time with our families and friends, a blessed time at the conference and missions day, and opportunities to share about what God is doing in Greece with CC Hellas.

Financial Provision: Thanking the Lord for His provision for the airfare but continuing to pray for Him to provide for all that we will need while in the States, as well as for the other needs we will have upon our return to Greece. Whenever we return to the U.S. we try to stock up on new clothes, shoes, electronic equipment, and any ministry or other personal items we may need. This type of trip is always costly and we need the Lord to provide… but know He will!

Practical Needs in the States: We most likely have a car lined up but are still in need of possible housing in the Orange County and South Bay areas for some of the time, we are not sure when yet. Please pray for this and if you are able to help please contact us and we will give you the details.
